What is the Importance of Keyword Search?

My intent with writing this article is to answer that question I hear so often; what is the importance of keyword search?  Keyword research is possibly one of the most necessary jobs you will do when building a website.

Using the right keywords in your site content will help with search engine optimization (SEO).  When building a website, you need to understand the importance of keyword search

Researching will allow you to learn which words are most frequently used.  The information you learn from performing keyword research can help you to foresee changes in demand or when the market situations change.

It will also allow you to create products and services the potential customers are actually searching for.  I recommend using Jaaxy, which is an easy keyword research tool to use and allows 30 free keywords search.

A keyword is usually a phrase that contains two to three words.  This phrase is recognized as a phrase that people who search the internet use when looking for a specific product or service.

The phrase should and must be used within the content of your website page.  Hopefully, this article will help you to understand how to do a keyword research for SEO.

Where Is My Website?

Have you ever attempted to create a website, but when you tried to pull up your site it was nowhere to be found?! You get that plummeting sensation in the pit of your stomach.

Most people know that it is important to try to get your website to appear as the top search engines ranking. The problem is some may not know why it doesn’t show up on that first page.

The reason the website isn’t appearing in the search engines is because of SEO or I should say the lack of SEO. There really isn’t any huge secret about SEO. It just takes having a little bit of understanding about what is happening behind the landscape.

The Inside View of a Search Engine

There are three software applications that make up a search engine.  If you can gain a little knowledge about what the software does you will then have a foundation for getting your website placed at or close to the top of the search engines.

Spider Software –This software moves slowly across the internet searching for new pages to gather and include to the search engines index. The spider software will request pages the same as any browser (Chrome, Firefox, IE, and Safari) does.

However, the spider is only concerned with text, links and the URL. Since the spider doesn’t pay attention to pictures or videos, you should identify those with text (‘alt tag’), otherwise it will be ignored and they won’t have any value with the search engines.

Search engine spider crawls the web

Spider Software crawls your pages.

Index Software – The index software has the job of deciphering all of the text, links and URLs that the spider software collected. This is done by using algorithms. An algorithm is a complicated math formula that is able to catalog (index) words and phrases.

Basically, the algorithm will examine the pages and links for word groupings to determine what the page is about, specifically what topics are being covered.

Finally, the software gives scores that are allocated for the search engine to determine how pertinent the pages and URLs may be to the individual doing the searching. The major search engines each have their own undisclosed algorithm; they nonetheless all use the information that is collected from spider software. The job of the index software is to document all of this information and makes it all accessible and stores it.

Query Software – When we go to a search engine and put in the word or phrase the search engine will attempt to match the search words with the most relevant web pages by searching the web. In reality, the query software doesn’t search the web. What it actually does is search all the information that has been collected by the spider software and recorded and stored by the index software.

With that background information in hand; it is easier to understand why key words are important to your website. Keywords are simply the words people use when they search for a topic in the search engines. The words that are typed in the search box will determine the results the search engine brings up.

Therefore, search engines need to know what keywords are being used to search so that the search engines can bring up a list of websites that are considered the best and most significant web pages it can find.

Locating Keywords

Don’t make this more difficult than it really is. You don’t have to try to think of words that are witty or imaginative. Just think of an ordinary word or phrase consisting of two or three words that are pertinent to your website (your business).

Use keywords to win

Keywords are the key to success

The keyword search tool can provide the number of times each keyword has been searched that month.  Jaaxy’s keyword tool can show how many visits to your website if you achieve the first page rankings in the search engines.  It can also show you how many websites ranked in Google that are competing for the exact keyword.  It is also color coded to indicate the quality of the keyword.

The information from the keyword tools are real web searches made by people looking for specific information, products and service on the internet.  The search can also give you more words to change one word into a phrase, thus creating another keyword. For example, the keyword “foods” could make a keyword phrase of “healthy foods”.

Using a keyword tools such as Jaaxy you can find out all you need to know about specific keywords and whether they will score high in the search engine optimization. The scores are based on competition and traffic. Keywords are scored from 1 to 100, with 100 being the best score. The larger the number the more apt you will rank for using this keyword on the first page.

Competition – The Quoted Search Results (QSR) in Jaaxy provides this information. The higher the number means the higher the competition. It is recommended that you don’t use keywords if the competition number is over 200 even if the keyword receives a high number of searches in the month and the traffic is high.

With that being said, the absolutely best kind of keyword you can use is the low hanging fruit.  What is that, you ask?

Low hanging fruit keywords would be those that have an average search number of at least 50 or higher ( at times it may okay to use a search number of less that 50) and the competition (QSR) is 50 or less.  In fact, the closer the QSR number is to zero, the better.

The high competition and low SEO numbers would indicate that the keyword is a poor quality keyword and it will be very hard to rank on the first page. Keep away from those keywords with high website competition and low search amount.

Ongoing Keyword Research

Make a habit of performing ongoing keyword searches and not only when you first create your website. To be victorious in keyword research you should:

  • Check your keyword numbers regularly to ensure they are still relevant. Number counts can change over a period of time. High ranking keywords can become less popular and vice versa.
  • Keep including more valuable keywords to your web pages. The more high ranking SEO keywords you add to your site will make your online business more lucrative.
  • Scrutinize how well your keywords are doing. Performance of keywords results from a combination of the kinds of keywords below.
  • Words people use when they are in the mood for buying. These keywords will result in good traffic to your site and conversions.
  • Words people use when they are in the research approach. These keywords will result in good traffic flow but not good conversions.
  • Words that correspond to buying behavior in niche markets. These keywords will result in low traffic with very good conversions.

Bottom Line

The majority of click-through traffic in the United States comes from Google at approximately 79%. The website that holds the first place ranking in the search results will gain about 42% of all the click-through traffic; second position receives about 11.94% and the third position gets about 8.47% and so on down the line.

The first ten search engine page rankings received about 89.71% of all the click-through traffic. You can see why it is imperative to do keyword research so your web pages can earn positions within the first ten top search engines ranking.

      Hello,

Thank you for commenting on my article. Most of the articles I write about are issues that I myself had with having an online business or problems that others have mentioned to me. I like to write articles that will help newcomers to the business to avoid making the mistakes veteran marketers have already come across. Understanding the process of keywords and SEO can get a little tricky if you don’t get a good handle on it right from the start.

Thanks for stopping by. Let me know if you have any questions that I may be able to help you with.

      Cheers,

      Verna
